Greetings!

I am Michael C. Houston, and I am seeking re-election to remain Oakland’s City Auditor.

As City Auditor, I promote transparency, accountability, and integrity by leading a team in evaluating the performance of the City of Oakland’s operations and services. An important duty of the City Auditor’s Office is conducting audits and investigations with recommendations to City leadership. When implemented, our recommendations streamline processes, safeguard public resources, increase revenues, reduce costs, and improve social and racial equity. My Office’s work is critical to improving the City of Oakland’s operations by better aligning them to policies, rules, regulations, best practices, and community expectations.

Being elected means Oaklanders can have confidence that I am independent. This independence empowers me and my team to review what matters most to our community and the City, and to directly and honestly report on how the City is performing. When re-elected, I will use this independence to continue to promote accountability, transparency, and integrity on behalf of those who live and work in Oakland.
